Some
quick facts about San Bernardino County:
- San Bernardino County is the largest
county in the U.S. in terms of land area. At 20,160 square miles (52,072 km2), it
is larger than Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Delaware
combined.
- Its 2 million residents
make it the 12th largest county in the U.S. in terms of
population. Its population is larger than 15 states in the nation.
- Its labor force of more than
900,000 provides the County and its neighboring communities with
valuable human capital on which successful businesses are built.
- Its 18 colleges and university
campuses provide a highly educated workforce. Roughly a
quarter of the population over 25 has a college degree.
- Six-figure households are
the fastest growing income segment. One quarter of County
households will earn more than $100,000 a year by 2011.
- Strategically located in the heart of Southern California, its
businesses serve a combined market of
more than 23 million people within three hours of driving.
The GDP of this combined market
exceeds $1 trillion.
- It has three large airports
with spare capacity. LA/Ontario International Airport
offers convenient flights to 36 destinations in the U.S. and
Mexico. It is also an air hub for UPS’s West Coast and
transpacific operations. There are several public general
aviation airports for business and recreational use.
- It is the logistics heartland
of Southern California, the U.S. gateway to the Pacific.
The strategic location, available land, and relatively affordable
industrial space make the County an attractive location for
trade-related operations. The County serves as a critical link of
the global supply chain for many international businesses thanks to its
extensive highway and rail connections to major destinations around the
nation.
- The County offers some of the most
affordable homes in Southern California. It is where many
Southern Californians get their American Dream fulfilled.
- Its diverse climate and
geography, from snow-peaked skiing slopes to vast deserts,
offers a wide range of nature-based entertainment for both local
residents and tourists. One can go from the ski resorts of Big
Bear to the beaches of Orange County in two hours. The County
also hosts the entrances to two National Parks (Joshua Tree and Death
Valley).
San Bernardino County is part of the Riverside-San
Bernardino Metropolitan Area:
- Together these two counties cover 27,408 square miles (70,987 km2), an
area larger than the State of West Virginia.
- With its population of over 4
million, the region has more residents than 24 states in the U.S.
